Diplodia

Here are some pictures of a problem we are experiencing with our corn. It is called Diplodia Ear rot. It is caused by excessive moisture. Japanese Beetles make it worse by eating the silks off of the corn. So, we had a lot of the perfect elements for the ear rot this year. Lots of moisture and lots of Japanese beetles. If you look at the pictures you will notice a white film on the corn. This is the diplodia. Collie will have to give me the percents again. . .how much we are experiencing in our corn. And what this means at the elevator. I can't remember all of the facts. These pictures were taken west of our house on the south side of the road.

Corn is growing fast!

The first picture of Brady posing by the Corn field (he can't stand the thought of a picture that doesn't include him!) was taken on May 28! The corn is now almost above our heads!! It sure does grow fast!!

This picture of the rainbow over our house was taken on June 9. The rain had just cleared and as we drove home, we witnessed this beautiful rainbow! From this vantage point it seemed to be directly over our house!!

Things are still a little wet, but everything is growing fast!

Planting Progress. . .

This picture of the corn was taken about a week ago, just west of our house. We have been back in the fields for a couple days now after a torrential rain fall last Friday afternoon and evening. It rained over four inches in a short amount of time. The bottoms looed like a lake. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures from this rain event, but it was something to see! Luckily, most of the water receded as quickly as it rose. . .so we were able to get back to planting pretty quickly.
